In their most recent game, Delhi defeated CSK in Chennai for the first time since 2010. Now, after tonight’s win, DC has four wins and eight points in four games. Couple that with a solid net run rate, and they stand second in the points table
Today, we will look back at three reasons why RCB lost this match while playing at their home ground.
3 Reasons RCB Lost To DC IPL 2025
3) Economical Bowling By Delhi
While tonight’s pitch wasn’t a typical Chinnaswamy track, as there was some stickiness to the surface, it was still mostly a batting-friendly surface. Despite that, most of the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack had a fine outing today.
Let’s start with spinners. While captain Axar Patel had a poor day with the ball, with the figures of 0/52 in four overs, the other two tweakers in the team, Kuleep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam, gave away a combined 35 runs in their eight overs and picked two wickets each.
When it comes to pacer bowling, no pacer bowled their entire quota of four overs. And while Mitchell Starc conceded 35 runs in three overs and took no wickets, Mukesh Kumar and Mohit Sharma combined to concede only 36 runs in five overs with one wicket each.
It was this bowling that restricted RCB to a below-par score of 163 in this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Delhi Capitals match.

2) The Middle Overs Muddle For RCB
The Royal Challengers, under captain Rajat Patidar, got off to an excellent start in this match, batting first after losing the toss. RCB got off to an excellent start in this game. The team raced to 61 runs in the fourth over by the time Will Jacks got out for 37 off 17, and then the innings slowed to a crawl.
Even the score of 70 wasn’t crossed at the end of the powerplay, and while Virat Kohli tried picking the pace up again, he was dismissed for 22 off 14. After this, not only did the Royal Challenges seem like they were collapsing, but the run rate crawled to a halt.
Devdutt Padikkal, Liam Livingstone, and Jitesh Sharma not only scored less than 10, but they also wasted a lot of time. The three combined scored eight runs in 25 deliveries. Meanwhile, captain Patidar did score 25 runs, but he did so in 23 deliveries.
It was Tim David who scored a quickfire 37 off 20 in the death and took his team to at least a respectable total of 163, which, in the end, did not prove enough.
1) The KL Rahul Show at His Home Ground
However small the chasing target was, the Delhi Capitals looked in trouble, losing three wickets in the powerplay at the score of 30/3. The top three batters had gotten out for sub-10 scores each; it seemed that the visitors were in massive danger.
But then came KL Rahul, who flipped the game on its head. At first, he took a more sensible approach. Seeing that the target was too big, the Bengaluru-based batter did not look to be in a hurry to score runs after skipper Patel got out.
Playing at 25 off 21 at that moment, Rahul went directly into the fifth gear and started hitting boundaries and sixes all over the park. With very light rains coming in, KL did not release the pedal and kept on slogging.
By the time the match had ended, KL Rahul had a staggering score of 93 off 53, that too coming after him scoring at a run-a-ball till about 30. So deservingly, Rahul was named the Player of the Match for this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Delhi Capitals IPL 2025 Match 24.
