3 Reasons Why MI Lost To RCB IPL 2025: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in a blockbuster Match 19 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Monday, April 7, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
This is the Royal Challengers’ first win of the season at home. With their third win of the season, they stay at third place in the points table with six points and a solid net run rate behind DC and GT, who have an even better NRR.
As for the Indians, this is their fourth loss of the season. So far, this team have lost all of their away matches. With only one win and two points in five games, MI currently sits at eighth in the points table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why SRH, which is one of the best teams in the league on paper after the return of Jasprit Bumrah, lost this match.
3 Reasons Why MI Lost To RCB IPL 2025
3) Fall Of Wickets At Crucial Moments In The Death
The Mumbai Indians lost some very crucial wickets in the death overs that contributed to the side losing this run-fest of a match. To set the scene, the game required 52 runs to be completed in the final four overs. Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya were playing blistering knocks. A betting man would more than consider going all-in on MI at this point.
However, after scoring only 11 in the 17th over by Yash Dayal when the required rate was 17, Tilak, having reached his half-century just a few balls ago, smacks a wider ball over the off-side boundary. Instead, he was caught at the boundary by Phil Salt as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took a wicket in the death.
Then, on the first ball of the 19th over bowled by Josh Hazelwood, captain Hardik Pandya, playing on 42 off 14, skied the ball too and was caught in the deep by Liam Livingstone.
With 28 now required on 11 deliveries and an incoming Mitchell Stanter being on strike alongside Naman Dhir, the match had all but ended. A few more boundaries and wickets later, RCB had won the game by 12 runs.

2) Failure of the MI Bowling Attack / Bumrah Not Taking Any Wicket
The Mumbai fans were excited that Jasprit Bumrah, the best bowler in the world today, would be returning to the playing XI for their team in this match. MI’s bowling did look a little toothless so far, and that was on display today as well.
Apart from Jasprit, no other bowler bowled with an economy of under 10. Deepak Chahar went for 29 in two, Hardik Pandya went for 45 in four, and Trent Boult had a miserable day, conceding 57 runs in four overs despite taking two big wickets.
And as for Bumrah, while he did concede only 29 runs in four overs at the economy of 7.25, he failed to take any wickets. It would be more accurate to say that the 30-year-old pacer was unlucky in picking up any wickets in the powerplay when he looked great.
While the pitch was clearly quite batting friendly, even the team’s best bowler not taking any wickets played a big role in the home team putting up a massive 221-run total in this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Mumbai Indians match.
3) No Big Innings From MI Top Order
The MI batting order has had all kinds of days in IPL 2025. In some matches, the top order has performed, while in others, the middle order has pulled the team along. Today was the day of the Indians’ top order being highly ineffective in a big run chase.
Chasing a massive target of 222, Rohit Sharma did look good in the early proceedings as he hit some vintage fours and sixes. But then, in typical Rohit fashion, the Indian Cricket Team captain was bowled in the second over by Yash Dayal, having scored 17 in 9.
The overseas batting duo of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks did not do too well either. While Rickelton did play a little quick and got out after scoring 17 runs in 10 deliveries, Jacks played 18 balls and played only 22 runs before getting out to Krunal Pandya.
Suryakumar Yadav, of all people, tried playing an anchor inning but batted too slowly. By the time he became the team’s fourth wicket, he had scored 28 in 26. By the time the top four batters had gotten out, Mumbai was at 99/4 in 12 overs and required 123 runs in 48 deliveries. It was the No. 5 and 6 batters, Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya, who took this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Mumbai Indians match close.
