3 Reasons LSG Lost To PBKS IPL 2025: The Punjab Kings defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs after scoring 236 runs in Match 54 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Sunday, May 04, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
The Lucknow Super Giants are now really struggling in their quest for the playoffs. They kicked their season off in a roller coaster of a way, losing to DC, defeating SRH, being bested by PBKS, and winning against MI. Then came two wins in a row, against KKR and GT. A loss to CSK and a win over RR were next. However, in their last three games, LSG has lost to DC, MI, and now PBKS again. With five wins, 10 points, and a negative net run rate in 11 games, the Super Giants are seventh on the points table.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings have made a leap towards the top of the table. In the 11 games they have played so far, they have won seven: against GT, LSG, CSK, KKR, RCB, CSK again, and now LSG for the second time this season. They have also been beaten thrice by RR, SRH, and RCB. Their game against KKR was washed off. With seven wins, one washout, 15 points, and a positive net run rate in 11 games, the Kings are second in the league table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why LSG, who are looking at each game as a must-win, lost this match away from home.
3 Reasons LSG Lost To PBKS IPL 2025
1) A Poor Outing For The LSG Bowlers
The Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling attack had a horrible outing in today’s match. That is quite obvious when we remember that the Punjab Kings scored 236 runs while batting first. But the plight of LSG’s bowling performance tonight goes a lot deeper than that.
Manayank Yadav, who did not play the first half of the season due to injury, has only been able to show glimpses of the pacer that became the hottest commodity in world cricket last year. Today was his worst ever performance in professional cricket. The speedy bowler conceded 60 runs in four overs at an economy of 15 and took no wickets.
Prince Yadav and Avesh Khan have impressed with their performances, especially their death bowling this season. However, both of them went for many runs in this game. While Yadav conceded 43 in four at an economy of 10.75 and took one wicket, Avesh gave away 57 runs at an economy of 14.25 and took none.
Digvesh Rathi, who has been a standout for the Super Giants this season, gave away 46 in four but did pick up two wickets. The best-performing LSG bowler tonight was Akash Singh, who was playing his first match of the season, took two wickets and conceded only 30 runs.

2) Lucknow’s Top Order Collapse
At the end of the day, the target set by the Kings was just too high for the Super Giants. And while almost the entire PBKS batting lineup contributed in reaching that massive total of 236, the man who played the biggest part in that was Prabhsimran Singh.
The pair of Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya opened the batting for Punjab. While rookie Arya has played a couple of good innings here in there this season, Singh has been much more consistent and is standing strong in the Orange Cap list. Arya was dismissed for a single run tonight, and Prabhsimran anchored the innings, scoring 91 off 48.
The opening wicketkeeper/batter had some decent partnerships for the entirety of the 19 overs he was on the crease. He first took the team to the 50-run mark alongside Josh Inglis (30 off 14). He then had a 78-run partnership with captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored 45 off 25. Nehal Wadhera came in next and scored 16 runs in nine deliveries. Shashank Singh played a solid inning at the end of 3 off 15, and Marcus Stoinis scored 15 runs in five balls.
But it was the brilliant inning of Prabhsimran Singh that tied everything into a fine knot and kept the home side’s batting on track despite wickets falling regularly for PBKS in this Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants match.
