3 Reasons GT Lost To CSK IPL 2025: The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans by 83 runs after making 230 runs in Match 67 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Sunday, May 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Gujarat Titans have had a fine campaign in IPL 2025. While they did start with a loss to PBKS, GT then won four games in a row against MI, RCB, SRH, and RR. Then came a loss to LSG before victories over DC and KKR. Gujarat then lost a game to RR before winning three in a row against SRH, MI, and DC. However, they have now lost two matches in a row heading into the playoffs against LSG and CSK. With nine wins and a positive net run rate, the Titans have finished the group stage with 18 points and are currently at the top of the league table.
As for the Chennai Super Kings, they were already out of the race for the playoffs. They started their season well, with a win over MI. But then came five losses in a row to RCB, RR, DC, PBKS, and KKR. This was followed by a win over LSG and another four losses in a row, this time to MI, SRH, PBKS, and RCB. CSK then won a game against KKR, lost one to RR, and has now defeated GT. With four wins, 10 losses, eight points, and a poor net run rate, the Super Kings have finished the season at the bottom of the table.

3) GT Bowling Punished
The Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack was taken to the cleaners by the Chennai Super Kings on a warm Sunday evening in Ahmedabad. After losing the toss, the home team was put to bowl first on this flat track. GT used seven bowlers today, and besides the Purple Cap holder Prasidh Krishna, every bowler who bowled even a single over today witnessed why T20 cricket is considered the batters’ game.
First up, arguably the biggest name in this bowling unit and one of the greatest bowlers of this generation, Rashid Khan, was tasked with slowing the flow of runs with his spin bowling in the middle overs. But that did not happen, seeing he conceded 42 off four and took just one wicket.
Mohammed Siraj could stake the claim of being the face of GFT’s bowling unit, and he too had a disappointing outing today. His four-over spell ended with the figures 0/47 at an economy of 11.75. Gerald Coetzee bowled three overs and gave away 34 at 11.33 rpo with no wickets.
Sai Kishore bowled only two overs and conceded 23 runs, and took one wicket. Shahrukh Khan bowled one over and gave away 13 runs. Arshad Khan bowled the second over of the CSK innings today and conceded 28 runs in that. He ended his two-over spell with the figures 0/42.
The only Gujarat bowler who had a decent outing today was Prasidh Kishna. The current Purple Cap holder bowled four overs, took two wickets, and conceded only 22 runs at an economy of 5.50.
2) The Titans’ Middle Order Crumbles
After conceding 230 runs while bowling first, the GT batting unit had a massive task at hand if they were to win this match. Much would depend on their top order, seeing their top three batters are among the top 10 highest run scorers this season. But when captain Shubman Gill got out in the powerplay for just 13 off nine, trouble started brewing.
Jos Buttler got out an over later for just five runs, and the Titans only managed to make 35 runs in the first six overs while three wickets fell. The third wicket was Sherfane Rutherford, who got out for a duck.
Orange Cap holder Sai Sudharsan built a partnership with Shahrukh Khan, but the required run rate had spiked to over 16 rpo after 10 overs, as only 85 were scored in the first ten. Then, on the first ball of the 11th over, Khan got out for 19 off 15. Later in that over, Sudharsan departed for 41 off 28 as the Titans’ chances of winning went down drastically.
The GT middle order failed today after a rare misfire by the top order. After Shahrukh, Rahul Tewatia scored 14 off 10, Rashid Khan made 12 off eight, and Arshad Khan made 20 off 14. The home team got out for 147 and lost the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings match by 83 runs. The star for CSK’s bowling was Noor Ahmed, whose four-over spell had the figures 21/3.
1) No Time To Waste
This was apparently the motto for the CSK batting order in this match. After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the Chennai batting unit focused on taking full advantage of a flat surface. The opening pair of Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway hit the ground running from the word go.
In just the second over of the inning, 17-year-old Mhatre made 28 runs with two 4s and three 6s. By the time Ayush got out for 34 off 17 in the fourth over, the score had already crossed 40. Another young and attacking batter, Urvil Patel, walked in next and started in fifth gear.
All this time, Conway anchored the inning, striking out and hitting occasional boundaries of his own. Patel made 37 off 19 and got out in the 10th over as the score had already passed the 100-run mark. Shivam Dubey then came and went quickly, making 17 off eight. While none of the innings around Conway were long, they were certainly quick and impactful.
By the time the New Zealand international had gotten out in the 14th over at the score of 156/4, he had made 52 off 35. This left Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja on strike. And while Jaddu played a supporting role, Brevis pulled out the big guns. With four 4s and five 6s, the South African made 57 off 23 at a strike rate of almost 250 and was the star of the show today for the MS Dhoni-led side.
When teams make massive scores like this (230), normally, there is one batter who scores close to 100 runs. But today’s score by CSK was a community effort, with all batters contributing to taking their team to a total beyond the opposition’s reach in this Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings match.
