3 Reasons DC Lost To KKR IPL 2025: The Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Delhi Capitals by 14 runs after setting a target of 205 runs in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Tuesday, April 29, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The Delhi Capitals seem to be losing their form at the worst time in IPL 2025. So far, they have won six games against LSG, SRH, CSK, RCB, RR, and LSG again. However, they have lost four games as well, three of which have come in their last five matches. DC has dropped games to MI, GT, RCB, and now KKR. After tonight’s loss, the Capitals have six wins, 12 points, and a positive net run rate, putting them fourth on the points table.
As for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions have not had the best tournament so far. They opened this season with a loss to RCB and followed it up with a win over RR. Then came a loss to MI, a win against SRH, a defeat to LSG, a victory over CSK, back-to-back losses to PBKS and GT, and then a washout in the reverse fixture against Punjab. After winning tonight’s match, the Knight Riders have four wins, nine points, and a positive net run rate in the league, putting them seventh on the points table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why DC, who looked like a top contender for the playoffs a couple of matches ago, lost this game at home.

3) Losing Wickets At Crucial Moments
The Delhi Capitals should have chased this target down. Their loss today was, in a big part, because of them losing wickets at crucial moments during this 200+ chase. First, in the power play, the Capitals lost Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair, two men who have given this team a fine start throughout the season. Then, in the seventh over, KL Rahul was run out.
At 60/3, the captain and vice-captain duo of Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis put together a 76-run partnership in the next seven overs. Faf even scored a half-century. But when it looked like these two men would set the stage well for the finishers to end the game, first Axar got out in the 14th, and then Faf was dismissed in the 16th.
In the death overs, when Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam stood as the final pair of proper batters, Sharma got out in the 18th over with 45 runs required to win. The Delhi innings saw several batters score decent runs, but because they got out at crucial junctures of the match, the home side lost this Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders match by 14 runs.

2) Spin To Win For KKR
It was a good day for spinners in Delhi, as across the two innings, tweakers took 10 wickets. They did especially well for KKR, as the three spinners took six wickets out of nine for the defending champions and bowled economically as well. The trio of Anukul Roy, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine bowled 12 overs, took six wickets, and gave away 95 runs at an economy of 7.91 and played a massive role in winning Ajinkya Rahane’s team the match.
Anukul, who played instead of Chetan Sakariya today, bowled much of his spell in the powerplay. In fact, he bowled the first over of the inning and dismissed Abhishek Porel on the second ball of the first over. His four-over spell had the figures of 1/27 at an economy of 6.75.
Chakravarthy was a little expensive today, giving 39 runs in his four overs at an economy of 9.75, but he did take two crucial wickets in the death, dismissing Ashutosh Sharma and Mitchell Starc, the two wickets that put this match to rest.
Then comes Sunil Narine. The legendary Trinidadian showed why he is one of the greatest bowlers in IPL history. He was the pick of the bowlers for the Knight Riders today. He conceded 29 runs in four overs at an economy of 7.25. But more importantly, he took three wickets today, those too crucial ones. He first took out DC captain Axar Patel, who was looking dangerous. He then dismissed the half-centurion Faf du Plessis before completing his trilogy of wickets with the clean bowling of Tristan Stubbs.
1) The Narine Show
Speaking of Sunil Narine, he was named the Player of the Match for his incredible all-round performance. As Kolkata was put to bat first by DC, the opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Narine gave the team a fine start. By the time Gurbaz had gotten out at the end of the third over, 48 runs were already scored.
Narine then scored some more runs with Ajinkya Rahane. By the time he was dismissed for 27 off 16, the team was already at 85/2 in the seventh over.
Then we come to the veteran all-rounder’s bowling. As stated above, his four-over spell of 3/29 was the best in the match. He basically took out Delhi’s batting power battery in the middle overs and tilted the match towards KKR.
His dismissal of Axar Patel broke a 76-run partnership in the middle overs by dismissing the skipper. He then got out a dangerous Tristan Stubbs for cheap, a man who could have ended this match on his own. Finally, right before the death overs, Sunil Narine dismissed Faf du Plessis at 62 off 45 and essentially won his team the Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders game.
