3 Reasons CSK Lost To KKR IPL 2025: The Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets, with 59 balls remaining in Match 25 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Friday, April 10, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
This is the Super Kings’ fifth loss in a row in IPL 2025. While they did kick their season off with a fine win over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, since then, they have lost to RCB and DC at home while losing to RR and PBKS away. With this defeat against KKR, CSK now has only one win and two points in six matches. Couple that with a solid net run rate, and that puts them at third on the points table. It will now be quite difficult for the five-time champs to make it to the playoffs.
As for the Knight Riders, this win is just the latest upturn in a very topsy-turvy season. The defending champions kicked IPL 2025 off with a loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Then came the win over RR, then a loss against MI, followed by a win over SRH. Their last game before this one was a loss in a high-scoring thriller against LSG. Tonight’s win over CSK has them at three wins and six points in six matches and a positive net run rate, putting them fifth on the points table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why CSK lost their fifth match in a row in IPL 2025.
3 Reasons CSK Lost To KKR IPL 2025
3) Top Order Disappoints Again
The CSK top order in IPL 2025 has not performed to their expected standard in IPL 2025. Today, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad sidelined for the remainder of the tournament, the regular duo of Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway opened the inning, with Rahul Tripathi coming in at number 3.
Conway scored only 12 runs off 11 deliveries, and Rachin scored four off nine. Tripathi, who came in for Gaikwad in the squad today, scored 16 runs in 22 balls and looked uncomfortable the whole time.
Every team that has done well this season has done so on the backs of a prospering top order. Now, it might be a little too late for the Super Kings to make a full comeback and push for the playoffs. Their top order, which consists of a proven IPL commodity in Devon Conway and CT 2025 Player of the Tournament Rachin Ravindra, needs to start firing.

2) Collapse Of The Middle Order
After the openers lost their wickets within the powerplay, Vijay Shakar came in to bat at number four. Alongside a struggling Tripathi, Shakar stabilised the inning, scoring slow yet seemingly crucial runs, scoring 29 off 21.
However, as soon as Shankar was dismissed in the 10th over, with the team score being 59/3, all hell broke loose. An over later, Tripathi was dismissed, then Ravichandran Ashwin fell after scoring a single run, Ravindra Jadeja got out for a duck, and so did Impact Player Deepak Hooda.
MDS Dhoni, who will now captain the side for the rest of IPL 2025 with regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad injured, came in to bat at No. 9, returning to the spot he started the season at. However, the veteran keeper/batter could not make much difference as he was dismissed for one run.
By the time Dhoni got out, the Super Kings had completely fallen apart and were reeling at 75/8. And while the side dodged getting all out in the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match, it was still a humiliating collapse for a team that is already out of form.
1) KKR’s Spin Duo Strikes
The reason behind CSK’s loss, besides a poor batting show by some of the batters, was a masterclass in spin bowling by KKR’s mystery-spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, who combined to take five wickets in eight overs today.
It would not be fair to call it a supin-duo. Reading the conditions well, the Knight Riders played three spinners today. The aforementioned mystery spinners were joined by all-rounder Moeen Ali, who himself bowled a fine four-over spell of 1/20, dismissing Devon Conway.
As for Varun and Sunil, Chakravarthy bowled four overs today, conceded just 22 runs and took two wickets, dismissing Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda. Narine did better. In four overs, the West Indies all-rounder conceded just 13 runs, took three wickets, and was named the Player of the Match. He dismissed Rahul Tripathi, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni.
While the spinners ruled the show, the pacers didn’t do half bad. In a combined eight overs, Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora conceded 47 runs and took three wickets, with Rana, in particular, bowling a brilliant spell of 2/16.
