2) Maheesh Theekshana
With Wanindu Hasaranga missing the World Cup, the weight of leading the charge of spin for Sri Lanka will fall on the shoulders of Maheesh Theekshana. The 23-year-old mystery spinner has been one of the best-emerging bowlers in the past few years.
Maheesh Theekshana has the ability to spin the ball both ways, which helps him to take the pillars out of any batting order in the middle overs. His tendency to take consistent wickets throughout the innings will make him vital for Sri Lanka’s chances in the World Cup in India.
In the 15 ODIs he has played in 2023, Theekshana has taken a whopping 31 wickets, striking at an incredible average of 17.45. In the recent Asia Cup, he took 8 wickets in the five matches he played. His experience playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL is also valuable. In the 22 matches he has played across two seasons in the franchise tournament, he has taken 23 wickets. 3) Shaheen Afridi
One of the poster boys of Asian cricket, Shaheen Shah Afridi is the latest in a line of world-beating Pakistan pacers, a rotal line that has involved Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar.
