3 KKR players to watch in the IPL 2024: In a bid to return to glory days, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scooped in Gautam Gambhir, their former captain who led them to both their titles, from the Lucknow Super Giants as their mentor.
Shreyas Iyer, after missing IPL 2023, is set to return as KKR’s captain, although there is an injury cloud over his participation at the start of the season.
Last season, under Nitish Rana, KKR managed 6 wins in 14 outings and finished 7th in the points table. KKR have reached the playoffs only once since 2019—in 2021, when they lost to CSK in the final.
They have a strong squad this year, having released a spate of pacers and brought in Mitchell Starc for a record sum. Phil Salt and Dushmantha Chameera have been signed by KKR after Jason Roy and Gus Atkinson pulled out.
KKR have hefty star power that could propel them to their third IPL trophy.

3 KKR players to watch in the IPL 2024:
Mitchell Starc
Starc will garner all the attention whenever he has the ball in hand. Not only because he is one of the best seamers in the world, but also because Starc is the most expensive player in IPL history. KKR forked out INR 24.75 crore in the auction for the left-arm Aussie quick, who is returning to the IPL after his last appearance in 2015.
One of the deadliest fast bowlers in the world, Starc is a T20 World Cup winner and a two-time ODI World Cup winner. He comes with the wicket-taking ability across all three phases of an innings.
Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh has seen an incredible rise in his career in the past couple of years. He played a couple of impressive cameos in IPL 2022 and then rose to the occasion time and again in IPL 2023 for KKR. Rinku was KKR’s leading scorer last year, despite batting in the middle order.
Rinku gave the fans an epic IPL moment by smashing Yash Dayal for five sixes in the last five balls of a chase against the Gujarat Titans. The left-hander then made his debut for India and put on a string of strong performances. Rinku has all but sealed his spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
Varun Chakravarthy
If the pitch at the Eden Gardens is as spin-friendly as it was in the World Cup, Varun Chakravarthy will have a huge role in steering KKR’s fortunes. A mystery spinner known to account for some big wickets, Chakravarthy picked up 20 wickets last year. Now, with the T20 World Cup to follow the IPL, Chakravarthy has a great chance of returning to India’s T20I side after a forgettable stretch of 6 T20Is in 2021.
