1st Australia vs India Test: The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 series will get underway with the 1st Australia vs India Test on November 22, which will be hosted at the Optus Stadium in Perth. For the first time since the 1991/92 series, Australia and India will contest a five-match Test series.
India are the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy: they won the last four Test series against Australia, including twice in Australia, being the only Asian side to register even a single Test series triumph on Australian soil.
As India look to make a hat-trick of Test series victories down under, the hosts are set to welcome the Asian side with an extremely fast-bowling friendly surface in Perth.
Australia, who boasts of one of their greatest-ever pace attacks comprising Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, will be playing to their strength of fast bowling.
Perth pitch report for 1st Australia vs India Test
Western Australia head curator Isaac McDonald told ESPNcricinfo what could be expected from the Perth pitch: “This is Australia, this is Perth. I’m setting ourselves up for really good pace, really good bounce, and really good carry.”
At least 10 millimeters of grass is expected to be left on the pitch. Life for the batsmen is going to be really difficult in the 1st India vs Australia Test in Perth.
Australia’s Test record at Optus Stadium in Perth:
The Optus Stadium, which replaced the famous WACA Stadium as Perth’s Test-match venue but is similar to WACA’s bouncy and pacy surface, has hosted four Tests so far, and all four were won by Australia, including their only Test match win in the 2018/19 home series against India, which they lost 2-1.
“In a perfect world, I want to emulate last year,” McDonald added.
What happened the last time Australia played a Test match in Perth?
